Picking the best grips...

Picking the best grips...

Posted by GKD Gymnastics on 4th Apr 2019

Grips are worn on each hand when performing on the uneven bars, rings or high bar.
You will see grips on most competitive gymnasts as they help grip the bar or rings more easily.

Your grips will advance as your skill level advances. Most gymnasts start from bare hands and advance to beginner grips without dowels to dowel grips.

Do I need grips?

This is a decision that you and your coach will make together. If you have reached the point where you are performing alot of swinging elements then grips may help you stay securely on the bar. Discuss your options with your coach to work out what is best for you.

Which grips should I buy?

Once you have decided you need grips there are a plethora of options. You may wish to choose grips that are heavier and more durable or grips that are lighter and easier to break in. Here at GKD Gymnastics we supply both male and female Reisport and US Glove brand grips. Both are extremely high quality and come recommended by the worlds top gymnasts.

How will I know my size?

Again, this is something your coach can help you with... but as a general guide you take a measurement from the wrist to the base of the fingers. You will find further instructions on our sizing charts.

What else?

Don't forget to pick up a set of wrist bands to wear under your grips to prevent chaffing. These come in an assortment of colours and brands like US Glove and GIBSON
